Marketing is the study of communicating the value of a product, service or brand to customers, for promotional purposes, selling the product, service or branding.

Marketing techniques include the process of choosing a target market through market analysis and market segmentation, as well as studying the behavior of the customer and advertising a product’s value to the customer.

The spheres in Marketing

Inbound Marketing if you enjoy researching, you may be interested in this marketing field. These may include; researching customer habits; wants and needs and the best ways to meet those needs; what product designs and packaging best appeals to a certain consumer group; setting appropriate pricing’ and researching competitors.

Marketing research can also be described as the function that links the consumer, customer, and public to the marketing through information and requires mathematical and analytical skills.

Outbound Marketing if you are interested in personal relationships and public interactions this field is for you. There are several marketing fields that are classified as “outbound marketing” such as, customer service, promotions, public and media relations’ sales, and advertising. Graphic design or medial buying, as functions of advertising are some of the specialties within this field.

Direct Marketing involves going directly to individual target consumers, unlike using a mass medium, or what the Direct Market terms an “end-to-end direct marketing process.” Telemarketing is a form of direct marketing.

Social Marketing focuses on the behavior change and is commonly used in social campaigns around the world to benefit entire populations. The same marketing principles and techniques as other marketers are used in social marketing. With a focus on the desired behavior having a benefit to society at large.

What do Marketing Consultants do?

There are plenty jobs that one can do in marketing and they vary on the company, structure, and type of position that you are seeking.

Marketing account managers and marketing account executives are just two types of marketing jobs that one can do in the marketing field. These are the type of positions that include the day-to-day contact with a specific customer or client.

Another job responsibility would be to design the marketing strategies for a company to assist in expanding the company and helping it grow. In order to excel in this position one must have good communication skills, there will be a good communication liaison between you and the customer all the time. Having people skills is important in such a field because you are face-to-face with clients and customers most of the time.

There are also marketing jobs that don’t consist of you working with customers all the time. Positions that are less people orientated.
